The work on the new space has progressed so smoothly (thanks to the efforts of many of you!) that Annie, Sean and Valerie have decided to have a Special Grand Opening Back Room Karaoke Party on Friday the 13th. There is even a stage (being built as I type this) in the karaoke room to enhance the "I'm a Rock Star" illusion.

Front Room: LIVE MUSIC (yay!) with The Grannies and The Naysayers - plus Spike (of Me First & The Gimme Gimmes, Swingin' Utters and the OG of karaoke at Annie's) spinning his fave tracks.

Yes, that's right, Annie's Cocktail Lounge is officially closing it's doors at 15 Boardman Alley on December 31st. Miss Annie and Sean K - long time friend's and fellow bartender from the Kilowatt and Slim's - are opening a new space at the former CW Saloon and soon to be former Cherry Bar. It's gonna be renamed "Annie's Social Club" and we hope to have the doors open in the early part of January.

Yes, karaoke will continue in the back (in the very intimate) peepshow room - on which and how many nights will be up to the hostesses for sure. Live music will also happen along with ROCK DJ nights.

I'm excited for Annie and Sean (and the rest of the staff) as this will be a new and very cool spot opening in SF. Closing night at Annie's Cocktail Lounge will be on December 31st., but come on down during the rest of December to say good bye.

*now, where am I gonna go for my nice quiet Friday nights? Annie did mention that she'll have an "old man" space for me and Jason (and other old farts that come down on Friday).

Painting Party (good-bye 15 Boardman and hello 917 Folsom)

I don't know about everyone else, but I was feeling very nostalgic at the closing of Annie's Cocktail Lounge on the 31st. I left at about 1am, made a ruckus and had Les (the new doorman) throw me out and "86" me from Boardman. Good times man.

Anyway, there's gonna be a painting party throughout the 1st week of January begining on Monday, Jan. 2nd. at the new place at 917 Folsom (the old Cherry Bar/CW Saloon). I plan on being there on Tuesday (not that it matters to anyone, but I usually go to Annie's on Tuesday night) and maybe on Friday (for the same reason).

Some of you may have not gotten the Evite from Valerie and some may have not, but all are welcome:

"Do you like live music? Do you like to go out? Of course you do! So you owe it to yourself to come help the newest, bestest music club in town open on time. We need a PAINTING ARMY (for free, that is). Can you come help paint, oh please? We need shifts starting on Monday from 1-5, then 6-tired, and pretty much continuing until it's done. Pizza and beer will make inevitable appearances. We have the paint, trays, dropcloths, tape, extension handles, roller covers and some handles. Any extra tools you have on hand would be much appreciated. If you can help, Annie, Sean and I will love you forever. Please indicate which day and time you can make it in your response. And really, FEEL FREE to invite more people who are ready to work."

I'm collecting photos of Annie/Annie's related people to make a collage to give her as we move out. Ultimately, I want to make a big enough a collage to frame in a poster-frame thingy.
So far, I have raided all the photos in this tribe as well as from my personal collection. I will also try her website. If any of yous guys have some more photos, I want them. My goal is to get everyone that is a regular/semi-regular represented.
I will probably give it to her on the opening night of the new bar, so I can include pictures from the last night at the Cocktail Lounge. Oh yeah, this is a surprise, don't tell Annie.

Road Trip?

I'm thinking about renting a car and just driving in some random direction (except for due West, obviously) and would love to have a posse that would love to see America, keep me company, and feed me NO-Doz and Red Bull cocktails so that I can drive for hours on end until I start hallucinating from sleep deprivation (which I've done before, and, YOW, is that scary when you are by yourself). I've had the drink twice now, and it is simply fabulous. It even comes with a little plastic monkey who's prehensile tail allows it to hang onto the side of your glass while you're sipping away at it.

Oh, and in case the drinks don't interest you and you don't get enough of me being the most crass, drunk, and beligerant emcee since Chuck Barris on the old Gong Show at Leisure, I'll be hosting karaoke there from 9PM to 12 Midnight. Hope to see you all there. And PLEASE, if, once I'm done there, someone could wheel me off to some other party happening around town, I would forever be appreciative.

The Lingba Lounge is at 1498 18th Street at Connecticutt in the heart of the Portrero Hill district. Karaoke goes on from 9PM-12AM. PLEASE GET DRUNK AT ANNIE'S FIRST THOUGH BEFORE GOING TO LINGBA! I saw lots of bulbs flashing that Tuesday night - who got the pics? I must know so I can show them to friends who think I was fibbin' when I said I was actually wearing pink sequins&chiffon that night........themed dress night at karaoke was kind of fun - we should do it again sometime. Any other ideas for what we could dress up as?

It's Joy Division in the muthafuckin' HIYOUSE at Popscene, gawdamnit! We have to get there early (I'll be there at about 7PM) and be the first to get to get our pictures taken with the man who played bass for Ian Curtis. Anyone else down with camping out with me like a bunch of gothed out high schoolers camping out in front of the local Bass Ticket outlet for The Cure's Prayers Tour back in '89? (I know....I just majorly dated myself) I've got a cellphone. Would anyone like to chip in on getting some pizza delivered to us in line? Ooh...I can even bring some ghetto booze that we can drink from a brown paper bag to keep us warm while waiting in the cold...maybe a bottle of Boone's Farm or Cisco...not to be confused with Sisqo....though it would be really amusing to have a miniaturized Sisqo in a bottle there for our entertainment so that every time we get bored while waiting, we can just look over at our bottle of Sisqo, clap our hands, and say, "AHEM...Little Sis-quo. We're getting bored. Could you please sing us 'The Thong Song' once again. We love it when you do that 'Thong-tha-thong-thong-thong' part." Damn...that would be so cool...Sisqo in a bottle. Wait...what was I posting about again? OH YEAH....Peter Hook...Popscene...tonight. Who's going? Yeah.

I know I've bugged you all before about this, but now it seems that Ruby Skye (RUBY SKYE??!!) has passed Annie's in quantitiy of reviews. Granted, Annie's is at 4.5 stars and I think Ruby Skye is at 2.5 - still too high, if you ask me.

So, basically, please post a review if you have not already done so. The default when you click on local faves is 'most reviewed' - at least it is when I click on it. Let's put her up at number 2 - Zeitgeist has over 40 reviews and I don't think we'll beat that since we're at 16.

New Year's Weekend

Just posted an "event" on this and a few other tribes.

Annie's is having DJs (Spike, Nate and Tess) - playing her kind of kick ass music - on New Year's Eve - 9pm

Then Jody is going to Host Hair of the Dog Karaoke on New Year's Night - 10pm

Check the event listing for the specifics - keep in mind, annie's will not be at 15 Boardman Place next year, so this will be the last New Year's to rock out at Boardman.

She is actively searching for a new location and will have one in the next few months - BUT SHE IS STILL OPEN. I've heard some rumors that people think she may have already closed. This is not the case. She is staying open until she has the next location locked down - Have no fear! come down for some beer - and cocktails, and conversation, and karaoke.
